DAVID BECKHAM: FOOTBALL PLAYER OR FASHION MODEL?

When in 1995 a 19-year-old young player came out the United's bench to replace United's star Eric Cantona nobody could imagine that a new era was about to start. His name: David Robert Joseph Beckham. Since this very moment David Beckham, aka Becks or Spice Boy, would become the cornerstone of a team that would dominate European football in the coming years. Beckham was born in Leytonstone, London, England; the son of a kitchen fitter and a hairdresser. His parents were fanatical Manchester United supporters. David inherited his parents' love of Manchester United where he would play for 11 years. In 2003 David signed a four-year contract with Real Madrid although it was speculated that Real's desire to sign him came from the merchandising opportunities he would bring as well as from his football ability. After 2 fruitless years in Madrid he finally won the Spanish League last season. On 10 January 2007, after prolonged contract negotiations, Real Madrid announced that Beckham would not remain at Real Madrid after the end of the season. On 11 January 2007 Beckham announced that he had signed a five-year deal to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy beginning 1 July 2007. On 13 July, he was officially unveiled as a Galaxy player in a ceremony at the Home Depot Center. Married to pop star Victoria, Beckham is considered by many more of a model than a football player. David is constantly sought after by clothing designers, health and fitness specialists, fashion magazines, perfume and cosmetics manufacturers, and hair stylists and is the face of companies such as Pepsi, Adidas, Motorola, Gillete y Volkswagen. Beckingham Palace is the name of David's mansion in England. Beckhingham Palace is often visited by David's close friends such as Tom Cruise, Elton John or Robbie Williams
